E-Content Consulting was subcontracted by the CP Tech Center to support a variety of innovative training development projects in support of FHWA’s Construction Management Team through the National Highway Institute. The objective of this task order was to produce five independent 1.5-hour long, web-based training courses that focus on the “how to” of constructing quality concrete pavement preservation techniques.
E-Content Consulting team members created FHWA Concrete Pavement Preservation templates and standards, set requirements for high-impact graphics, videos, and animations for improving learning experience for visual and kinesthetic learners, and completed technology troubleshooting to enable the use of video footage and other complex media in the web-based trainings.
E-Content Consulting team members coordinated expert task group (ETG) meetings that included representatives from State DOTs, construction industry experts, FHWA staff, and other organizations to successfully review course content and ensure its accuracy.
E-Content Consulting used its rapid development approach along with the ADDIE model for our course development process. E-Content Consulting developed equipment animations with hotspots on equipment that provide additional descriptive information in a triggered popup. In addition, the E-Content Consulting team created scenario-based knowledge checks authentic to the participant environment. This type of knowledge check helps to reinforce knowledge transfer from the instruction to the real world. We also developed and attached multiple job aids to the instruction, allowing participants to have physical reference materials from the training that again reinforce the knowledge transfer and practical use in the field.
Upon completion and approval of the content, each course was translated from English to Spanish to reach a broader audience in the transportation community.
All courses were built using the Adobe Presenter authoring tool, in alignment Section 508 revised standards, in HTML5 format, and are SCORM-conformant, which was required per the contract. The project was completed on time and within budget.
