E-Content Consulting was subcontracted to provide a series of four videos (8–10 minutes each) in support of the Everyday Counts – Education Connection initiative, intended to introduce careers in the highway transportation industry with an emphasis on innovative applications of technology, to audiences in middle school, high school, vocational school, and college undergraduates.
As part of the project, FHWA subject matter experts were interviewed and the key subject areas identified were researched from a career perspective by one of our experienced researchers. The team was involved in extensive script writing for each of the four videos, including writing two-person and single-person narratives to appropriately address each audience uniquely. This included researching current vernacular by audience and reaching out to members of the target audience for review and feedback.
For each of the four videos, scripted audio was recorded in a professional studio with experienced actors. Developers then created the videos by editing the audio and combining it with innovative graphic treatments and a vast amount of relevant industry photos and video segments, presented with age-appropriate segment timing (5 seconds or less for middle/high school and slightly longer for vocational and undergraduate), resulting in a highly engaging video intended to capture and hold the attention of each target audience.
The team also leveraged an education training expert with extensive K-12, vocational, and collegiate curriculum and instructional development experience, while developing supporting curriculum materials to ensure effective classroom delivery of the video series by target audience. Materials developed included lesson plans with detailed instructions, in-class and enrichment activities, and engaging handouts for students.
In addition to the outward-facing deliverables, extensive outreach and documentation was done to research, collect, and organize image and video clip sources, including soliciting of signed releases for all the media featured for each video. Additionally, 508-compliant closed-caption files were developed to accompany each video and 508-compliant PDFs of the handouts were developed.
